Macedonia, OH — Girl Scouts of North East Ohio (GSNEO) is pleased to announce the 15 honorees selected for this year’s Women of Distinction Award and the company selected for the Advancing Women Award; they will be honored at a ceremony on Thursday, September 18 from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at The Union Club in Cleveland. The selection committee received 35 nominations for women who inspire, mentor and empower girls to achieve their own goals and dreams and six companies and organizations.
Delivering this year’s keynote speech will be Susan M. Johnson, engineer project manager for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s (NASA) Glenn Research Center. She is assigned to the Aeronautics Research Office and is Deputy Project Manager for the Rotary Wing Project.
“When women and girls have the opportunity to participate fully alongside men and boys as leaders in the workplace and in our communities, we all benefit,” said Barbara Carlstrom, 2013 Girl Scouts of North East Ohio Women of Distinction recipient, and Chairperson for this year’s event. “These awards raise awareness for this important initiative while also celebrating those who advance women through mentoring programs and women’s initiatives as well as outstanding women in our communities whose passions, commitments, and accomplishments make them positive role models for girls.”
Calfee, Halter & Griswold LLP was selected to receive the 2014 Advancing Women Award for its proven commitment to advancing women in the workplace through its “Navigating Calfee” mentoring program, “Women of Calfee” affinity group, “Lifestyle Resources” program, and for its work-study programs that encourage high school students to consider law as a profession. The law firm is actively engaged in the community and supports local non-profits through pro bono work and volunteerism.
The 15 women selected for the Women of Distinction Award embody all that we promise to live by as Girl Scouts: to be honest and fair, considerate and caring, courageous and strong, and committed to making the world a better place. Their talents are broad and their impact far-reaching, whether they work directly with girls or support the Girl Scout Mission in other meaningful ways.
