Watch your daughter blossom and grow as a Girl Scout Daisy this summer
Welcome to Daisy Girl Scouts introduces girls entering K-1 to the program
Girl Scouts of North East Ohio (GSNEO) is now recruiting girls for Girl Scout Daisy troops that will be forming this fall. A “Daisy” is any girl entering kindergarten or first grade who accepts the Girl Scout Promise and Law and is a registered member of the Girl Scouts of the USA ($15 annual dues).
The first step is to register for the summer program: Welcome to Daisy Girl Scouts. The cost is $25, which covers membership through September 2015. Parents also receive a Welcome to Daisy Girl Scouts program magazine in the mail with activities that can be completed at home along with a caring adult. With a time commitment of just one hour per week, girls complete fun, interactive activities covering Girl Scout program areas such as character education, arts and sciences, financial literacy and developing leadership skills. Girls have the opportunity to earn fun patches over the summer. Then on September 20, 2014, the new Girl Scout Daisies will receive free admission to participate in a program at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo.
“Girl Scouts provides the kind of influences and experiences that will help young girls develop strong values, self-confidence and life skills while having fun in a supportive environment dedicated to girls,” said GSNEO Chief Executive Officer Jane Christyson. “The Girl Scout program is delivered by adult volunteers who have committed not only their time and energy, but have also taken the time to receive training that enables them to work with our girls.”
Troops begin forming in the Fall. However, it can take several months for a new troop to get started. Once volunteer leaders and additional girls are recruited, the process of forming new troops begins. Any adult 18 and older is encouraged to become a troop leader or co-leader, and especially parents who may enjoy Girl Scouting alongside their daughter.
